RE: Vacation Time

Having worked in "Corporate America" for 30 years I have found the main reason why people don't take vacation is they are worried their company can survive without them. Some wear it like a badge of courage..."Oh, I haven't taken a vacation in YEARS!". I've had 3 weeks vacation for quite a while now and I use every minute. I've taken two three-week vacations, and far more two week vacations than one week vacations. I make sure I don't schedule time off during crisis times (i.e., end of quarter when I worked in Sales) and make sure I don't conflict with others. Vacation time is MY time, not company time and the day an employer gives me a hard time about taking it is the last day I will work for that employer. My husband is at the Director level at his company and he takes his vacation-all 5 weeks of it-in whatever amounts he wants. The Blackberry and laptop do come with us but conference calls aren't so bad when you are sitting on the beach doing them!

RE: Campground near Camp Perry/ Port Clinton, OH?

Camp Perry itself has a campground on the property. What it has to offer I'm not completely sure, but here is the website: http://www.cplcc.com/ (Sorry, can't remember how to make the link clickable!)

Look up their required education. It's very similar.

RE: Tornado Devastation

I couldn't live in a tornado prone area. The stress would be too much for me. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this. You are in my thoughts are prayers.

RE: Son will NOT be having femur surgery-woo hoo!

Minkhill, something I've discovered is unfortunately they call it the "practice" of medicine for a reason! It's a real c*apshoot trying to find the best course of action. Maybe I should have said "most likely won't be" having the surgery because we won't know the next step until his treatments w/the chiro are over. I think the dislike stems back from when chiros first started practicing and many did not have medical degrees. Any new procedure or treatment that defies accepted protocol will always be met with skepticism. Can you imagine the response to the first cardiologist who said we could transplant a heart???

RE: American Heritage RV Park-Williamsburg, Va

I've been to Williamsburg multiple times and have never heard of any issues, but I suppose as in any town/city there have to be some. Have stayed at American Heritage and highly recommend it.

Sometimes I wonder...

Why I let myself get attached to people here. When they hurt, I hurt. So much sadness lately. But I know when I hurt, they hurt too. Deep sigh.

RE: Son will NOT be having femur surgery-woo hoo!

Hmmm. Guess it's hard to describe to someone who hasn't been to all the doc appointments, etc. Sorta like trying to explain the existence of God to a non-believer, I guess. Well, specialist #1 wanted to do knee surgery immediately on a kid who wasn't through growing. #2 was clueless and suggested #3. #3 siad "something needs to be done" and suggestreed #4 who was the knee surgeon who at least said "look at the hips" with #5 (well reknowned surgeon). #5 said "cut the femur" w/o really looking at the hips. Chiro said "one leg longer than other, one shoulder lower than other, let's check sacrum alignment. Sacrum alignment was off so we'll see what happens after a few more adjustments. Am I rambling enough yet?

RE: Son will NOT be having femur surgery-woo hoo!

Barb, the 5 specialists had 5 different opinions, with the last two being somewhat on the same track. This has been a 3 year, lots of research, talk to lots of people, let's figure out the best route process. We did not select the chiropractric route solely because it's what we "wanted to hear". It was the last resort prior to the femur surgery. Knee surgery is still on the horizon. He was the first who explained, in any detail, the correlation between all 3 parts of the body (hips, femur, knees) AND the first that gave us a real explanation. After just one session we already see improvement, i.e. foot position, and my son's posture has improved.

Son will NOT be having femur surgery-woo hoo!

Some time ago I had posted about my son possibly needing femur rotation surgery (physically cutting the femur, rotating, and reattaching). We had a number of issues with the surgeon so we put everything off to think. In the interim my BIL had been talking to someone who knew someone that knew the chiropractor that works with the New England Patriots. Long story short we saw him today. Turns out my son has a HIP alignment issue more than an issue with the femur. One leg was a full inch longer than the other. How 5 other specialists, his pediatrician AND his parents (mea culpa) missed this I do not know. I only noticed when we were at the doc's office that one shoulder was higher than the other (go figure, why today?). So, it appears his sacrum (the triangular bone at the end of the spine) is significantly misaligned. After one treatment today, his legs are already almost the same length, his should lines up, and his feet are straighter when he walks. Moral of the story: See a surgeon AS A LAST RESORT unless you are convinced there is no alternative. There are usually options that can be taken prior to that point. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted!

RE: Kids not in class anymore.

Guess I'll stop paying my taxes so all you retirees will have to stop loafing around cuz you can't collect SS! ;) I think my son has learned more outside the classroom than in. And why shouldn't kids have a little fun? There's plenty of time for them to be serious later on in life. Remember, we don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing. START PLAYING!

RE: going slower on lightly traveled roads-gas savings

Hubby and I had this discussion this morning. Removing stop and go traffic (lights, etc) from the picture, does it really consume more fuel if you take longer? If you are driving a set number of miles and at Xmph and you get 12 mpg and at Ymph you get 15 mpg aren't you still using less gas at speed Y regardless of how long it takes? Assuming you are on a major interstate that just flows along nicely (ya, pipe dream, I know!), isn't it reasonable to assume one could use less gas than on a secondary highway when you factor in stop and go with lights, traffic, etc, and more difficulty in keeping a constant speed? Constant slowing down, speeding up and idling eat fuel. Also consider that backroads often create a longer distance to your destination and thereby wipe out any fuel savings. I'd like to see someone take the same trip both ways and calculate their fuel economy. I'm an interstate person myself mostly because we usually don't have the time to mosey as we are trying to get somewhere in a short amount of time. My hope is this will change at some point, although with my personality type I'm guessing not. I find neither is more or less dangerous than the other, just different, and to think otherwise can be dangerous in itself.

RE: How is Myrtle Beach beach repleneshment going?

Anyone have any idea how the beach at Myrtle Beach Travel Park will be affected? We're headed there in mid-August and won't be pleased if the beach isn't available.
